Child Safeguarding Statement

1. Our Commitment to Safeguarding

D.Light Dance & Acrobatics is committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of all children who participate in our classes.
We recognise that children have the right to be safe, respected, and supported in an environment that promotes confidence, enjoyment, and positive development.

We work in accordance with:

• the Children First Act 2015

• Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children

• relevant Irish safeguarding standards and best practice

2. Our Guiding Principles

Our work with children is guided by the following principles:

• Child-centred approach: The wellbeing and best interests of the child are always our priority.

• Safe and supportive environment: Classes are delivered in a positive, respectful, and inclusive setting.

• Respect and dignity: All children are treated with care, fairness, and consideration.

• Equality: Every child is valued regardless of ability, gender, background, or circumstance.

• Clear boundaries: Appropriate behaviour and professional boundaries are maintained at all times.

• Positive participation: Children are encouraged, never forced, to take part in activities.
   

3. Risk Assessment

D.Light Dance & Acrobatics has carried out an assessment of potential risks to children while participating in our classes.

Risks considered include:

• supervision during classes

• physical activity and injury

• behaviour management

• drop-off and collection procedures

• photography and media use

Appropriate measures are in place to minimise risk and promote a safe class environment.

4. Safeguarding Practices

To support our commitment to safeguarding:

• Classes are led by appropriately trained and vetted instructors

• Children are supervised at all times during classes

• Clear drop-off and collection procedures are followed

• A positive, supportive approach to behaviour is used

• Any concerns regarding a child’s wellbeing are taken seriously

• Photography or media use follows parental consent and clear boundaries
   

5. Reporting of Concerns

Any child protection or welfare concerns will be handled in line with Children First guidance and Irish safeguarding requirements.
Concerns may be reported to the appropriate authorities, including Tusla, where necessary.
 

6. Implementation and Review

This Child Safeguarding Statement is reviewed regularly and will be updated:

• annually, or

• when there is a significant change to the nature of our services

Safeguarding is an ongoing commitment within D.Light Dance & Acrobatics.
